VERSO programme

Mediation skills and a culture of encounter.

A culture of mediation strengthens community well-being and relationships

Where there are people, there are clashes of relationships: perceived bullying, conflict and resentment. Mediation acts as a relationship repair shop. Welcome to mediation!

Mediation is a safe way for trained mediators to help the parties themselves find a solution to their dispute. The parties are experts in their own experience. Mediation strengthens participation and consultation and usually leads to an agreement, which is monitored.

Mediation in education and learning communities addresses abusive behaviour as early and effectively as possible. The VERSO programme has been training mediation activities for children, young people and adults in kindergartens, primary and secondary schools, comprehensive schools, upper secondary schools and vocational secondary schools since 2001. A culture of mediation strengthens community well-being and resources.

Activity in figures:

The VERSO programme has been training and launching peer mediation activities for 25 years and MiniVerson and Resto for about 15 years. By the end of 2024, there will be more than 2000 trained units in early childhood education, almost 1000 in primary and secondary education and almost 3000 trained Resto mediators.

We estimate that around 70% of trained units and individuals use the skills they have learned and implement VERSO in their units.

Functions of the VERSO programme

The VERSO programme works in early childhood education, primary and secondary education. MiniVerso activities in early childhood education and care support the strengthening of a culture of children's rights, inclusion and community, especially in situations of conflict in everyday life. The Verso activities for primary and secondary education provide a method for conflict resolution, where pupils and students can play an active role in the well-being of their school.

The Resto training for staff in early childhood education and care and school settings supports MiniVerso and Verso and gives staff the skills to build a restorative community, using mediation as a method for dealing with different levels of everyday conflict at the earliest possible stage.
